Your school counselors are trained to provide services such as:

  • Individual Counseling
  • Small Group Counseling
  • Academic Advisement
  • Middle School and High School Transition
  • Crisis Management
  • Referrals
  • Enrollment
  • Consultation and Collaboration about any concern 

 

Vision Statement

The counselors at M. D. Roberts Middle School of the Arts have a vision to meet the holistic needs of diverse students and their interest in learning. The students at M. D. Roberts Middle School of the Arts will gain academic, personal/social, and career skills, which will allow them to compete in a global society.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the counseling program to equip students with the tools to promote academic honesty, display respectful behaviors, and effectively resolve conflicts, while becoming college and career ready.

Beliefs

It is the belief of M. D. Roberts Middle School of the Arts counseling department that all student should have access to support in 3 core areas; academics, personal/social, and career readiness.  It is further the belief of the counseling department that departmental programs delivered should be research based and data driven. 

Goals

  • Academic
    • To introduce students to learning styles utilizing various assessments and inventories
    • To identify elements that may impede academic achievement
    • To close the academic achievement gap utilizing an array of interventions
  • Career
    • To encourage students to use technology in order to explore career opportunities utilizing
    • To bridge academic and potential careers through the use of computer generated software
    • To expose students to various careers utilizing community stakeholders
  • Personal Social
    • To equip students with the tools to effectively resolve conflict
    • To identify barriers for students at risk for truancy and provide students with intervention to successfully attend school
    • To assist students with developing a positive self-concept
    • To assist students with gaining and retaining healthy relationships
    • To effectively assist rising 6th grade student and rising 9th grade student with transition
    • To collaborate with all stakeholders to meet district school and program goals
